Welcome to the Brown University student chapter of Engineers without Borders. EWB-Brown is a chapter of EWB-USA (www.ewb-usa.org ) since May 2006.

We are a group of students and faculty dedicated to using engineering for social and environmental good. To that end, EWB-Brown facilitates working relationships with other groups and communities, in Providence and beyond, to pursue opportunities for socially conscious and environmentally sustainable design.

Why? Because out of the 6.5 billion people that live on Earth:

·  over 3 billion people have inadequate access to clean water and sanitation

·  6000 people, mostly children, die each year due to drinking of unsafe water, inadequate sanitation and poor hygiene

·  over 80% live in poverty

·  over a third die each year from famine

·  one-third have no electricity

...and sometimes all it takes to help a community is a small amount of materials and some people with a social conscience.
